Equity, diversity and inclusion

We are committed to bringing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) into all aspects of our work. We have taken steps toward making the CG Tools and our own practices more inclusive by:

  • consulting with a diverse range of arts and culture organizations at the outset of this project that included members of IBPOC, LGTBQIA2S+ and disability communities

  • working with Naheyawin to carry out a national Indigenous engagement strategy to learn about the priorities of Indigenous artists, organizations and communities within the context of the Creative Green Tools and our programming

  • conducting an accessibility audit of the CG Tools with the goal of reaching WCAG 2.1 standards and making the platform more accessible to people with disabilities

  • incorporating an intersectional lens within the Beyond Carbon section of the Tools that allows users to report on their current practices and create robust solutions involving different knowledge systems

  • developing a comprehensive EDI framework that will help to guide our actions and keep us accountable

  • carrying out a formal review of the language used on the Creative Green Tools platform to assess how it can be made more inclusive

  • assessing our data use policy and practices to ensure they uphold principles of Indigenous data sovereignty

  • engaging with Indigenous consultants in both anglophone and francophone communities on an ongoing basis to engage with Indigenous knowledge systems, learn from Indigenous leadership in environmental stewardship, and improve our practices

  • hiring staff to support and develop EDI approaches in our programming as part of the start-up team

We are committed to continuous improvement in all areas related to equity, diversity and inclusion. We will continue to build relationships with members of historically marginalized communities and involve these communities in ongoing conversations about how we can create more inclusive programming.
